"Be glad of your human heart, Feyre. Pity those who don't feel anything at all.”

Read: October 10,2017

Format: Hardbound

Rating: 3.5/5

“Better to die with my chin held high than groveling like a cowering worm.”

Feyre's survival rests upon her ability to hunt and kill – the forest where she lives is a cold, bleak place in the long winter months. So when she spots a deer in the forest being pursued by a wolf, she cannot resist fighting it for the flesh. But to do so, she must kill the predator and killing something so precious comes at a price ...

Dragged to a magical kingdom for the murder of a faerie, Feyre discovers that her captor, his face obscured by a jeweled mask, is hiding far more than his piercing green eyes would suggest. Feyre's presence at the court is closely guarded, and as she begins to learn why, her feelings for him turn from hostility to passion and the faerie lands become an even more dangerous place. Feyre must fight to break an ancient curse, or she will lose him forever.

Mixed feelings for this one!!!

There are a lot of things that confused me in this book. First and foremost, why is there too much hype for this? I just didn't get it. It was too slow for me. I was looking for something exciting and I got it only in the latter chapters. Second, was it because the ToG series was so good, that it has somehow made a precedent impression, knowing that the first series was amazing then the next one will be astounding as well?

First off, I like Feyre and her attitude. I love that she's very willing to sacrifice for her family. Even if it means hurting and depriving herself, she'd still support her family and try to keep them safe. It actually kills me to know that Feyre is always the one doing the protecting, and no one bothers to take care of her. She's a head strong kind of woman, one who stands for herself and can support her own. I love that she wasn't easily persuaded with all the lavish things she saw in the Fae world. It could have been easier to forget her family and their hard life, and just accept her new fate. It would have been easier to accept all the riches and grandeur Tamlin showed her, but she still did not let go of her inhibitions that easily. I love her strong will! Not all will/can say no to a gorgeous and strong Fae! I love how brave she is. Her bravery and skills always amaze me.

I also like Lucien. He made everything light and somehow fun for Feyre. At least he was there, Feyre could have used a friend and it's a good thing Lucien was willing to be one. I liked that Lucien made everything light in contrast to Tamlin who's just so uptight and serious. I feel like he's from way way back and doesn't have any idea how to interact with other people. He's just too cold and mysterious and also snobbish. Do you really blame Feyre for not trusting him immediately? But there are also scenes that will make you fall in love with Tamlin. But not me, no! I'm not so crazy over Tamlin, his antics and sweet gestures did nothing for me. It does not affect me at all. Maybe because I know all the inhibitions, all his good intentions, will be his own downfall in the future. (his or even Feyre's as well)

I'm also fond of those crazy creatures. The Suriel was kind of awesome (but also scary to imagine).

Aaaaaand I love how handsome the High Faes are. I can just imagine the faces of Tamlin, Lucien, and Rhysand! How fortunate would it be to be surrounded by these 3 handsome, fair and amazing creatures. (let's just imagine that this is Lucien and Tamlin, and Rhysand is too gifted to even fit in this GIF!!) Even the high lords from the other courts are all so good looking. ( I wish they have more exposure, maybe in the next books) I can't wait to know more about Rhysand. I kind of liked him easily. There was just something in him, that I didn't find in Tamlin, that I loved so fast. Maybe because he is a "bad boy who has a heart too" and it just pains me to know that everyone hates him even though he's just doing all of those things to protect someone/all of them. That one scene where Rhysand visited Feyre's cell, and he just said "because I'm lonely", it killed me!! To know that this strong and brave high lord is just keeping a facade to everyone, I wish someone was there to even understand him, or just see past his walls.

I was actually close to being bored and would have totally ditched this book. It's hard to keep reading when there's too little reason for you to continue. But it's a good thing that I sticked with it, because half-way through I was already hooked and loving every second, every scene!

Up until "under the mountain", I felt bored and uninterested. But then when Feyre stepped in there, it was non stop excitement! From then on, it was full of action and will really keep you on edge!! It was so exciting that I couldn't stop reading. The challenges were all so exhilarating and nerve-racking! (especially the Wyrm!) I was in awe with Feyre and her bravery but also with Maas for creating such a hair-raising scene. I felt like I was in there with all the faes and every court. It was as if I was seeing the action with my own eyes and I can feel everything.

This is what I was looking for in this book. The thrill, the rush, the mind blowing scenes, and the jaw-dropping world of faes and faeries.

Too short review for ACOTAR. maybe i’ll like ACOMAF and ACOWAR better. It really pains me to give this a 3.5 rating. I really believe SJM is such a talented author and that she wouldn't let us down. I will still try this series, I won't give up just yet, i'll still be reading the next books i'm sure of that!

Until my next review,

Have fun reading!
