If I am a sword,

I am a sword made of glass,

and I feel myself beginning to shatter.

Strange, my enemies know me best, and my family doesn't know me at all.

I'm very conflicted when it come to this series. Honestly, I'm not so sure whether I was just not in the mood when I read it, or it really was not what I expected it to be. No offense to everyone who liked the series, it was still fun to read despite all other issues I encountered. It was nice that Glass Sword began right where Red Queen ended. It was really exciting at first, but then that excitement slowly faded away.

First of all, my major issue in this book is the fact that Mare is always so undecided. She's so unsure of herself, should she be the cold leader or an approachable team mate; does she love Cal or not; does she like to be in control or what? Like, girl make up your damn mind! Cal is so hot and supported you even though it disgusted him to hurt his kind, and yet you're still unsure of your feelings?? Oh, and she's always so hesitant to claim her abilities. Like one minute it disgusted her to be this powerful and strong, and the next she claims to be the red queen and will be the Prince's killer. It's kind of sad and depressing to know that her thoughts are always so doubtful and sad. She's just always so alone and miserable. But one thing's for sure, after everything she's been through, she's still the kid who needs her family's support and acceptance. The kid who makes a lot of mistakes and still needs lessons in life.

Another issue I had, was the fact that there were too few stories about the recruits. Like just a few pages about who's who and what he does and where he's from, that's it. Also, no one struggled to join the team? No one doubted for a second whether they're being tricked into submission? or that maybe Mare and her team are just cronies of Maven and are set as a trap? Why did no one think of being cautious, especially at a time where Reds and Newbloods are in danger. Well except for that last person to join, she's fierce and really puts up a fight even from the start. I bet she's even more interesting in the next books! I would have liked more stories about these new characters and not just names and the basics of their abilities. I bet a few days after reading the book, you won't even remember half of them. (I certainly don't!)

I eventually liked the latter part of the book. That was really intense and action packed, you won't stop from turning to the next page! I wish the whole book was that blazing, I would have totally understood the love for this book if it was the case.

I particularly liked the scene with Kilorn and Mare before the meeting. I felt the true meaning of their friendship. How both are willing to forgive each other, willing to accept each other's flaws, how they are both trying to protect one another. I love this one of a kind friendship, such a treasure and very special.. For every step Mare takes, Kilorn is at her side, if he can't persuade her to change course, then he'll be beside her to whatever end. There was a scene where I thought Kilorn sold his soul to the Lakelanders, and I swear it killed me many times!!

My excitement of their friendship cannot be said the same to that of Cal and Maven's relationship. Was it that bad to be your brother's shadow that you're willing to hurt him, even kill him? Was it even Cal's fault that your father treated you that way. Cal treated him as his buddy, his best friend, his confidante. Why couldn't he see that?!? I can't say I pity Maven, I sort of liked him in Red Queen and I even shipped Mare with him. But to be that cruel and heartless is just beyond me! He's such a cold-hearted bastard, he really deserves to be alone, (or maybe with Evangeline, because they're both brutal) I would love to see the end of Maven! I cannot wait for the time where Cal and Mare can get their revenge on him!! And even Evangeline and Ptolemous, how come these two never die?! I cannot wait for their death! I wish it'll be slow and a painful one.

I wish there were more scenes of Cal and Mare. Not just planning and scheming, but actually talking about each other. Like their dance lessons in Red Queen, or their first meeting at the Stilts, or that time when Mare was accompanied by Cal at her family's home.. I wish there was more intimacy between them, even though they pretend to not like each other! I wiiiiish there was more to them than just sharing quarters, like Shade and Farley!!! (but let's not talk about Shade, it pains me just thinking about him)

Although it bored me at some point, I'd still recommend this book to everyone who loves young adult fantasies! I liked it despite all other circumstances. I would totally continue reading this series, I cannot NOT know what happens to Mare and Cal and Maven!

Happy reading Bellas!
